The relationship between Angola and Norway goes back to colonial times. The Norwegian support to the struggle for independence in Angola continued in the 1980s in the form of regional and direct bilateral co-operation between the two countries. The partnership was later extended to include humanitarian aid to help alleviate the effects of war on the Angolan people.
Taking into account the similarities between the two countries in terms of natural resources; both rich in oil, natural gas, hydro power, fish and timber, there are excellent prospects for co-operation in the industrial and commercial sectors. There are already several Norwegian companies present in Angola, and wherever possible they work in partnership with Angolan companies. We are certain that the number of Norwegian companies interested in doing business in Angola will increase in the near future.
Several Norwegian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) work in Angola supported by funding from the Norwegian government . These organisations implement development programmes within the areas of health, education, mine action, water and sanitation and community development. Like the Norwegian companies, the NGOs give priority to working in partnership with the Angolan government and Angolan NGOs.
Norway works in direct collaboration with the United Nations, supporting the joint efforts of the Angolan government and the UN system in promoting a sustainable socio-economic development and at the same time improving respect for human rights and reducing the poverty level of the most vulnerable groups.
Norway has recently elaborated a new Framework for the co-operation with Angola in order to improve and adjust the relationship between our two nations according to the new post-war situation.
Visiting our site you will find information regarding various aspects of our co-operation and our development programmes. We hope that the available information will be of use to you and we strongly invite you to make suggestions that may help improve our site.
