The Queen Sonja International Music Competition takes place in Oslo from 19 to 28 August. It is open to all, and the winners will be awarded prestigious concert engagements with major Norwegian music institutions.

The Queen Sonja International Music Competition, which is a cooperation project between the Norwegian National Opera, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Academy of Music and Rikskonsertene, takes place every second year. It has developed into an important national and international event in the music world since its launch in 1988.

The singing competition is aimed at highly proficient singers. The preliminaries are arranged in the Norwegian Academy of Music. The semi-final and finals will be arranged in Oslo’s new and spectacular Opera House. The winners will be offered concert engagements with institutions such as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the Norwegian National Opera. The German tenor Daniel Behle won first prize in the 2005 competition.

The Queen Sonja International Music Competition is open to all singers born after 1 January 1977. The application deadline is 1 March 2009.
