"The Color of Milk" (Ikke Naken)
This lovely romantic comedy about the 12-year-old Selma is a film about the troubles of first love, and about how difficult it may be to fall in love-or NOT fall in love. Through Selma we gather insight into the entangled relations of the rest of the family, and-at all levels-into the relationship between man and woman.
Written and directed by Torun Lian, 2004. With Julia Krohn, Bernhard Naglestad, Andrine Sater, and Reidar Sorensen. In Norwegian with English subtitles.
When: Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 pm
"Just Bea" (Bare Bea)
Bea is a sophomore in high school. She writes for the school paper, and her boyfriend is the school's best looking and coolest senior. So far so good. But she is the last one to loose her virginity, and since she is told that that should never happen with someone you are in love with, she is on the outlook for a completely uninteresting guy. Enter Anders, who has not been told about the plan and who thinks that Bea genuinely likes him. What exactly does Bea like, what does she want?
Directed by Pette Næss, 2004. With Kaia Foss, Kin S. Falck-Jorgensen, Espen Klouman-Hoiner, and Ida Thurman-Moe. In Norwegian with English subtitles. 100 min.
When: Wednesday, March 9 at 6:30 pm
"Buddy"
The well-written script lets the actors shine in this film about growing into adulthood. Kristoffer, a billboard hanger, lives in a commune with a co-worker and a web designer. His girlfriend dumps him for her trendy boss at about the same time as a TV station discovers his video diary and starts running it as a regular segment on one of Norway’s most popular shows. Having Kristoffer’s somewhat funky view of his friends and surroundings on TV changes the carefree life and his relationship with old and new friends. Directed by Morten Tyldum, 2003. With Nicolai Cleve Broch, Aksel Hennie, Anders Baasmo Christensen, Pia Tjelta, and Janne Fonnoe. In Norwegian with English subtitles. 103 min
