Preview of Kari Hoaas' "memory 2"

On September 9, Kari Hoaas, a New York-based choreographer, dancer and teacher, will present a preview of "memory 2", a part of her dance project entitled "Plastic Memory", set to premiere in Oslo in 2007.

The ambitious project "Plastic Memory" investigates the symbiotic relationship between memory and emotions as vehicles for expression of identity.

Since moving to New York in 1996,Kari Hoaas' work has been presented by venues including P.S. 122, Movement Research, The 92nd Street Y, Chashama, and Joyce Soho, among many others, as well as at Bergen International Theater -Teatergarasjen in Norway. In 2002 she presented her first evening-length production, MORE, at Williamsburg Art Nexus. Kari served as curator of the performance series "New Stuff" at P.S. 122 from 1999-2003.

As a dancer she has performed with Sarah Skaggs Dance (1999 and 2001), Maureen Fleming (1996-1998 and 2001), and Sean Curran (1994-95), among others. She was a member of the Merce Cunningham Repertory Group in 1995, and performed in his works Torse and Fabrications. Kari is a graduate of the Norwegian National Ballet School in Oslo and The Urdang Academy of Ballet in London. In 1993 she received a three-year grant from The Norwegian State Educational Fund for Arts Education, which enabled her to travel to New York to study modern dance. She has been a member of The Norwegian Union for Dance Professionals since 1996. Kari holds the distinction of being the first Norwegian modern dance choreographer to present a full length evening of dance
