New Nordic Music Festival

Scandinavia House is the scene for a new Nordic Music festival on April 8 and 9. The weekend will include both classical, contemporary and Drum 'N Bass music. It will take place in the Victor Borge Hall at Scandinavia House.

On Friday, April 8, 7.30 pm you can enjoy an Evening of Music by the Finnish composer Esa-Pekka Salonen, performed by the Swedish pianist Per Tengstrand and the Scandinavian Chamber Orchestra. They will also perform short pieces by composers who have influenced him: Bach, Haydn, Lutoslawski, and Ravel. Mr.. Tengstrand has been praised by The Washington Post for his "fearsome technique" and the New York Times for his "eloquent, technically polished performances." The performance also features two highly acclaimed Norwegian guest artists, violinist Jan Bjøranger and cellist Ole Eirik Ree.

On Saturday April 9 at 4 pm there will be a discussion on contemporary music by the co-founders of the Scandinavian Chamber Orchestra, Magnus Mårtensson and Per Tengstrand. The Swedish composer Karl McFaul and Ole Eirik Ree will also engage in the discussion.

The festival ends that evening with a Nordic Lounge - Drum 'N Bass Concerto, beginning at 8 pm. Here Drum 'N Bass meets classical music in a world premiere of a new composition by Karl McFaul. The program also includes Per Norgård's "Constellations" and Magnus Mortensson's "Kvasir." After the performance there will be a reception and a chance to meet the composer.
